Dust-Free Concrete Grinding (Will The Job Be 100% Dust-Free?)
No, The Job Will Not Be 100% Dust-Free. BUT!
How Do We Achieve A Almost 90% Dust-Free Concrete Grinding Experience For Our Clients Free Of Charge?
We will grind your concrete slab with the use of a high powered Satellite 480 G3 Concrete Grinder that is connected directly into a high powered DustMaster DM-2680-M Dust Extractor.
But unfortunately, small amounts of dust are still produced and cannot be completely eliminated even with the most expensive high-end equipment and the latest technology. It should also be noted that certain equipment such as concrete grinders NEED small amounts of dust to function correctly. (Although over 90% of the dust is still sucked up by a 3 engine dust extractor that is plugged directly into the concrete grinder) but around 10% of the dust still escapes.
This system is intentionally designed to let 10% of the dust escape as the concrete grinder needs dust under the diamonds (the blades that are grinding your slab) to grind the concrete without damaging your slab or our equipment.
Get A Better Understanding Of Just How Powerful Our DustMaster DM-2680-H Dust Extractor Is
Dustmaster® series dust extractors have been specially designed to handle demands of the concrete grinding industry which has high loading fine dust.
This is the H-Class (or often referred to as HEPA) Dust extractor that is certified to handle hazardous dust. These amazing dust collectors have been certified to capture up to 99.99% of the dust.
Dust extraction in our industry is often more important than the actual grinding itself. Without it, we could breathe the fine dust which could be detrimental to our health.
– Featuring dual 10A motors, maximum performance is ensured. The longopac bagging system makes handling and disposal of hazardous dust much easier.
– Performance is maintained by the rotary filter cleaning mechanism which automatically cleans the filter during operation.
– This machine has a single durable toggle switch for each motor.
– A deep clean is achieved while running whilst the motor is turned off. The rotary filter cleaning can be turned off when the DustMaster is not in use, using the rotary switch on the front panel.
– H-Class (H13) dust extractors must pass the 0.3µm DOP test that certifies they capture no less than 99.99% of the dust.
– The rotary filter cleaning system is very effective and takes only 10-20 seconds to deep clean the filter. You may never have to remove the filter to clean it again, keeping your job and your hand’s cleaner!
– You won’t find a better piece of equipment to handle your job, this is the most high-end piece of equipment that we can use for your job. The next level up would require a 15A power supply which would require you to supply us a generator on-site as residential power only has 10A.

How Many MM Can You Grind Off A Slab?
The Concrete Grinding process is also used to level very small highs in concrete slabs up to 3mm, grind expansion joints level and prepare surfaces for application of leveling compound or for the re-installation of floor coverings such as Carpet Tiles, Vinyl, Tiles, Timber Flooring, and Cork as they all need a clean smooth and porous slab to bond too.
It should be noted that Concrete Grinding Sydney DOES NOT offer a service to grind highs in slabs OVER 3mm as this cannot be done with a standard concrete grinder. Instead a “Concrete Mower” is required, concrete mower’s require either petrol or three phase power to operate. Which can be incredibly hard to operate in residential properties, which is why we do not offer this service. It also requires lasers to map out where the variations are in your slab that need to be grinded which is complex.
Can You Grind A Uneven Slab?
If your concrete slab is not level this may affect our ability to be able to successfully use the concrete grinder as it relies on a level surface to function correctly. A standard concrete grinder that works on residential power (240V) can only grind up to 3MM variations in your concrete slab.
So while we can use a concrete grinder to remove small bumps up to 3MM high in your concrete slab, anything above that would require a concrete planer or a concrete mower, or a three-phase power quad-head concrete grinder.
How Does Concrete Grinding Work?
Concrete grinding is usually carried out by large floor grinding machines or hand held grinders that have diamond-encrusted cup wheels installed on a spinning disc. These diamonds make contact with the concrete at high speeds and gradually grind down the concrete or the glue, residue, paint, etc on it.
There are many different types of diamond cup wheels, which will have various effects. Generally, cup wheels are measured in grits. The higher the grit ratio the finer finish it will leave on the concrete. For a more polished effect, a cup wheel with a high grit ratio would be used.
Do I Need To Turn Off My Air-con & Fire Alarms?
Yes, While we are grinding your concrete, although we do try to keep the dust to an absolute minimum through various methods such as dust extraction units or wet grinding. Dust still may occur, so it is important that you turn off air conditioning units and isolate, switch off and cover your fire alarms as dust will set them off.
What Equipment Does Our Team Use?

What Is And Is Not Included In Our Concrete Grinding Services?
Please note our concrete grinding service IS NOT A:
– A concrete polishing service
– A concrete sealing service
– A floor leveling service
– A concrete planer service
– A concrete mower service
It is YOUR responsibility to understand the difference. If you do not understand the service you require please call and speak to one of our employee’s.
If you are hiring our concrete grinding services you understand and accept that we can only shave off 3mm of concrete MAX from your concrete slab using a concrete grinder. Grinding off more than 3mm would require a concrete planer or a concrete mower. As well as lasers to map out the variations of height in the concrete slab. Also concrete slabs that are not level may not grind correctly and there may also be areas that we cannot get to with the machine if your slab isn’t level.
Our concrete grinding services, are simply a service to remove things such as carpet glues, vinyl glues, lino glues, tile glues, tile cement residue, epoxy membranes, waterproofing membranes, etc. from the surface of your concrete slab.
WHAT OUR SERVICE IS:
To remove the residues off the surface and remove minor bumps up to 3mm high to allow the successful installation of a floor leveling membrane or to allow the re installation of a flooring system (if your slab is level and in suitable condition, Example: doesn’t need concrete cancer repairs or a floor leveling agent installed).
WHAT OUR SERVICE ISN’T:
Our concrete grinding service DOES NOT include the following:
– Re leveling of your slab
– Polishing your concrete slab
– Repairing your concrete slab
– Sealing your concrete slab
So why do you need to grind your concrete slab if your going to have to re level it possibly anyways?
The reason why its important to clean up your concrete slab is to allow the successful re installation of a floor leveling agent or a flooring system without it failing. Because if you don’t remove things like glues, residues, etc. from your concrete slab before re installing a new flooring system or flooring leveling agent. They wont bond correctly to your concrete slab and will fail in the near future, if not straight away.
So Why Choose Our Team At Concrete Grinding Sydney For Your Project?
Every year here at Dust-Free Concrete Grind Sydney our team removes tens of thousands of square metres of glues, epoxies, paints, adhesives, waterproofing membranes, tile beddings, sealers, etc for our clients. So as you can imagine they run into every issue you can imagine. As the concrete they are all Grinding is in all different roughness, variations in heights and job sizes.
So as you can imagine our team is extremely experienced in the services we offer and know how to handle any issue that we may come across on any project that involves our team Concrete Grinding or having to Grind Concrete. How To Use A Concrete Grinder
It’s often best to leave Concrete Grinding up to the professionals but if you are interested in learning more about how to use a Concrete Grinder or how our team uses them than continue to read.
Step 1: Get To Know The Concrete Grinder That You Are Using
Concrete Grinders are very powerful machines and if not used correctly can be very dangerous and even deadly. Make sure you read the user manual carefully and understand all of the features and parts of the Concrete Grinder before attempting use.
If you do not feel confident, it’s always best to leave it up to the professionals or get professional training first in most cases, the manufacturer offers a free course on how to correctly operate the machine to ensure you get the best results possible and operate the Concrete Grinder safely.
What Is A “Walk Behind” Concrete Grinder Used For?
A walk-behind concrete grinder comes in all different size’s and is used to grind a variety of different products off concrete floors. Depending on how big the job is and what product you are removing as well as other factors such as the thickness of the product being removed will determine what walk behind concrete grinder should be used. Other factors may come into play such as what power is available on site and what the access is like as some of the larger machines are extremely heavy and will require generators as well as “double door entrances” due to there size.
What Is A “Hand Held” Concrete Grinder Used For?
A handheld concrete grinder is as a fast solution for smoothing out bumps and other irregularities in both horizontal and vertical concrete surfaces. It is also used for doing skirting boards, walls, corners, hard to reach areas, areas that cannot fit a walk-behind concrete grinder, touch-ups, ETC.
What Is A “Passive Planetary” Concrete Grinder?
The “Passive Planetary” Concrete Grinder is the model that is more focused on concrete grinding than concrete polishing. The passive planetary concrete grinder has three satellite discs that are not driven, they float. You can easily swap the satellite discs to turbo plugs instead of satellite discs with very little downtime.
What Is A “Active Planetary” Concrete Grinder?
The “Active Planetary” Concrete Grinder is the model that is more focused on concrete polishing than concrete grinding. The active planetary concrete grinder has three satellite discs that are driven in addition to the main disc. You can swap the satellite discs out to turbo plugs but it is not a quick change procedure like on the passive planetary model.
This is a more complicated system hence why they cost a little bit extra, but it does have a better cutting action when it comes to concrete polishing. Planetary Grinders work best on less aggressive jobs, such as polishing a concrete floor, light floor preparation, wood floor sanding instead of concrete grinding, ETC.
What PPE Should Be Worn When Operating A Concrete Grinder?
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) should always be worn while operating a Concrete Grinder, no matter how big or small the machine is. The recommended PPE to be worn while operating a Concrete Grinder is:
– Safety Glasses, Goggles Or Face Shield
– Work Gloves
– Ear Muffs
– Dust Mask (N95 )
– Hard Hat (Commercial Work Sites)
– Safety Boots
– Sufficient Work Clothes
Understanding What Attachment Is Required For Your Concrete Grinder
With Concrete Grinders there are multiple different attachments called “Discs or Plugs” these different discs and plugs are replaceable and need to be changed depending on what you are trying to remove from the concrete. They are incredibly expensive and if the wrong disc or plug is used for the wrong surface they will get “eaten” away a lot faster costing you huge amounts of money. You must always ensure you are using the correct attachment for the job.
One of the most important parts of any Concrete Grinder is the disc or plug attachment used by the machine. These are the diamond-encrusted metal discs or stone plugs that are attached to the Concrete Grinder. These attachments are what make contact with the concrete and gradually grind it away.
List Of Different Types Of Diamond Discs & Plugs For Concrete Grinders And What They Are Used For:
TYPE: ARROWHEAD DISC / PLUG
USES: For general grinding, adhesives, paints, blackjack, epoxy, weaker carpet glue, vinyl glue, tile glue, Polyurethane, PS Glue, Rubber Back Residue, Self Leveling Screed
DESCRIPTION: Arrow Head Disc/plugs have a segment with a sharp leading edge for slicing, grinding and scrapping at the same time. This makes them aggressive, and ideal for glue removal and quick removal of thick layers 3MM and under.
TYPE: PCD DISC / PLUG
USES: For pressure-sensitive glues, cementitious glues, sticky paint, sticky epoxy, mastic, urethane, waterproofing membranes, tile beds and strong, thick adhesives
DESCRIPTION: PCD Disc/Plug’s feature extremely rough diamond particles for fast removal of thick and sticky compounds like paint, epoxy, mastic, adhesives, urethane and residues. They are more aggressive and longer-lasting than standard diamond cup wheels. They are commonly used when conventional diamond cups will not grind the material quick enough or they tend to get clogged up.
PCD Disc/plugs will not load up or smear the coating like a conventional diamond cup wheel but do leave a rougher finish. They are great for removing thick layers of materials over 3MM
PCD discs in the glue removal processed are used to remove 80% of the glue while leaving about 20% of the residue left. This is due to the fact that PCD discs get damaged if they grind on raw concrete, so once 80% of the glue has been removed move onto the next section. Once you have finished grinding the whole area with PCD’s swap back to arrowhead discs to clean up the remaining 20% residue.
TYPE: General Purpose Disc
USES: For general purpose grinding, also great as a “finishing disc”, removing minor bumps up to 3mm, removing minor imperfections.
DESCRIPTION: General purpose discs are designed for general purpose grinding, and flat grinding. They are ideal for aggressive removal of imperfections and minor concrete bumps. The double row gives them a smoother finish and a very long life. They are also great for cleaning up the concrete after use of an arrowhead or PCD disc to give it a cleaner finish.
Different Concrete Grinders may have different ways to attach the disc or plug depending on the size of your machine. Please read the manual for how to attach the discs or plugs if you are unsure. In general, the plugs just slide it and can be tapped out using a hammer. While the discs are normally screwed on, or click in with an attachment pin or attached with another method.
Discs And Plugs For Concrete Grinders – What Is The Difference?
Each disc or plug for concrete grinders is suited to a different stage in the concrete preparation process – “Plugs” are for the heavy-duty grinding, while “discs” are for finer work.
As you progress with your concrete surface preparation, you will need to switch plugs and discs. Switching plugs is very easy (we always recommend you wear gloves). Get a hammer and tap it on the plate near the plug and the plug should fall out. To put plugs in, just push them with a bit of force and they will bind in.
When it’s time to change from plugs to a disc, take the plug out and put in the magnetic plug that comes with the discs. Next, put the insert through the disc and then attach the disc to the magnetic plug. (When changing discs back to plugs, make sure you take magnetic plugs out).
To change the discs on the smaller concrete grinder/edger you’ll need to find the locking pin on the side of the machine to lock it in place. Once locked, take a spanner and use it on the centre nut to remove the disc. Replace with the new disc and tighten up again.
Arrow Head Discs VS PCD Discs
If the coating you are attempting to remove from a concrete slab is thicker than 3MM or is quite sticky you are normally better off using a PCD disc over an arrowhead disc. Arrowhead discs will run into the following issues if you try to use them on sticky coatings or thick coatings:
– the disc/plug will have issues with overheating
– The arrowhead will clog up frequently
– It will struggle to break through a coating thicker than 3MM and will take a lot longer than a PCD would.
It should also be noted that every hour its best to check the disc/plugs so that you can scrape off and clean any glue or coating residue build-up on discs and plugs. you can even sand them if you have any sandpaper. As keeping the discs/plugs clean will keep them running cooler and a lot more efficiently.
How To Improve Concrete Grinding Speeds & How To Expose The Diamonds On Your Blades & Plugs For Increased Performance
Method 1 – Wetting the concrete before concrete grinding helps to expose the diamonds a little more. Try to scratch open the surface first with a few light grinds while dry, then apply water and give it a couple of minutes to soak in. Broom off the puddles and remaining water to leave the surface wet. This process makes the dust a little heavier which cuts the matrix more to expose more diamonds to improve performance when grinding hard concrete. The dust will appear to be the same as if the water has done nothing, but grinding will be more productive. Repeat this process for each new cut.
Method 2 – Lowering the effect of the dust extraction, or vacuum: When we suck away all the dust from the concrete grinding process this changes the way the segment erodes away and in turn the amount of segment poking out of the segment. By not sucking away all the dust from under the concrete grinder when on hard concrete will allow the dust to erode the matrix and the diamond will protrude out of the matrix and scratch the concrete properly creating a faster grind. In turn, sucking away all the dust produced can slow the wear of your diamonds on soft concrete.
Understanding Your Diamond Blades & Plugs And How To Pick The Right One For The Job
Diamond tooling selection is crucial for making a profit and not going backwards on a job as diamond discs and plugs are extremely expensive. Using the wrong disc/plug for the job could cost you thousands! When selecting your diamond disc/plug you need to understand the following information:
Bond
Each diamond is set in a metal bond, the metal bond breaks away exposing the diamond, which in turn cuts the concrete. bond is critical when it comes to wear rate and performance on harder concrete slabs. Bond itself suspends the small ‘grits’ of polycrystalline diamond so that they do not fall out onto the surface being ground. The bond wears away to allow the diamond to be exposed.
This is required to sharpen the diamond to allow it to cut the concrete. Basically, as the diamond is dragged across the surface of the floor it is slowly blunted by the force of friction. At the same time, bond wears around the diamond exposing it more and more. Once the exposed diamond reaches a certain point, it splits and shatters creating more sharp surfaces which continue to cut.
The rate of exposure the diamond will require to stay sharp will depend on how hard the concrete is. In the case that the concrete is hard then the diamond will blunt quickly and require constant splitting/fracturing to ensure it stays sharp. Of course, the downside to the need to quickly expose diamond is the increased wear rate on the disc or plug.
Alternatively, where the concrete is soft or very gritty the opposite problem exists. Because grit and dust are abrasive to the bond it increases the speed of wear. This allows the diamond to become exposed, splinter and re-sharpen well before it blunts. While this does ensure maximum concrete grinding speed, it reduces the lifespan of the diamond disc or plug. In this case, a hard bond product will ensure wear is slowed to a more reasonable level.
A SOFT bond diamond disc or plug is more aggressive, but it will wear out quickly especially on soft concrete!
A HARD bond diamond disc or plug will wear slowly, but it will cut faster on soft concrete.
Soft concrete is more aggressive compared to hard concrete. So when selecting the diamond disc or plug we do the opposite:
You can obtain a “Moh’s Hardness Test Kit” online which allows you to scratch the concrete slab to check what type of diamond you should be using on the current concrete surface that you are working on. As it’s important to remember EVERY concrete slab is different.
With SOFT concrete – We use a HARD bond diamonds disc or plug.
With HARD concrete – We use SOFT bond diamonds disc or plug.
Segments
Discs & plugs have a series of blocks called ‘segments’ attached to them by way of high-temperature solder. These segments are the component of the diamond disc and plug that does the concrete grinding. Once these are worn completely away, the disc or plug will no longer be usable. Discs with fewer segments will be more aggressive. While discs with more segments on the wheel will deliver a smoother surface/finish.
The MORE segments a disc or plug has the LESS aggressive it is.
(This blue disc has A LOT of segments, making it a less aggressive disc)
The FEWER segments a disc or plug has the MORE aggressive it is.
(This red disc has VERY FEW segments, making it a very aggressive disc)
What Does ‘GRIT’ Mean?
The final piece of the puzzle is GRIT. Grit is generally the easiest component of the disc/plug to understand. Grit is used as a reference to describe the finishing qualities of the diamond disc/plug. The lower the number, the larger the piece of diamond (coarser grit). The higher the number, the smaller the piece of diamond (finer grit). Just like sandpaper, as the grit becomes smaller the finish becomes smoother. Generally in concrete grinding, 30 or 40 grit is about the coarsest required (Usually, 60-80 grit discs/plugs are used in the process of concrete polishing and not concrete grinding)
Most diamonds are #16 grit – Which is very aggressive for cleaning up concrete slabs.
But they go all the way up to #150 grit – Which is very fine for polishing up concrete slabs.
You will mostly use #16 & #30 grit – For removal and prep work on concrete, anything above that is heading towards polishing the concrete slab.
(Low Grit Number) – Are more for faster removal of concrete and for harder concrete.
(High Grit Number) – Are more for smoothing, polishing and touching up.
Concrete surface
What concrete hardness means for the concrete grinding industry is that the surface you are grinding will be either soft or hard. A 25 MPA concrete is very soft generally rain damaged and powdery and something that says 50 MPA which is very hard, generally curing compound applied or densified.
It’s really hard to tell until you start grinding the concrete.
We recommend starting with a hard bond diamond and see if the grinding is quick enough.
If too slow or not cutting at all, change to a soft bond but check the wear on the diamond after 10 mins or to make sure it’s not wearing too quick.
It is commonly known that every concrete slab is different, even areas within the same slab can vary from easy to grind too hard to grind. Here we describe what is actually happening and why we need different grades of diamonds and grades of the matrix for the concrete grinder to work effectively:
The main thing that causes a diamond to stop cutting is that the matrix that holds the diamond chips is not wearing out fast enough to keep fresh diamonds exposed and the diamond chips lose their edge. This means that the diamond chip ends up not protruding out of the segment and therefore rounding off and not cutting the concrete or stone. Hence, the grinding process slows down a lot. Faster diamonds or diamonds that cut faster have a feature common to them. Changing the following variables within the disc or plugs and segments mounted on them creates a faster cut:
– Diamond Chip Size:
Mostly there is #16 Grit through to #150 Grit sizes available.
– Number Of Segments:
Using a diamond disc with fewer segments means that there is more pressure per segment applied to the cutting surface. This wears the matrix faster and exposes the diamond chips.
– Softer Matrix That Holds The Diamond Chips:
This means that the matrix will wear at the same rate as the diamond chip or slightly faster meaning there is always a fresh edge to the diamond itself.
There Are A Few Things You Can Do To Speed Up Concrete Grinding
Here are a few tips that you can try: (You can try more than one of these at a time to grind faster).
Turn Your Dust Extraction Down:
– This will leave the dust from the grinding process under the head of the grinder and this creates wear to the matrix of the diamond segment which exposes the diamond chip again)
Add Weight To The Head Of The Concrete Grinder If The Power Available Permits:
– This will put more pressure on each segment and wear out the matrix to expose the diamond chips.
– More pressure per segment helps wear the matrix at the same rate as the diamonds wear.
– The extra weight does little to the wear factor of the diamond chips.
Use “Soft Bond” Discs With Fewer Segments To Overcome The Issue:
– The softer bond refers to the matrix, not the diamonds. the result of a softer bond is that the matrix wears out faster and keeps the diamonds fresh and exposed.
Throw A Little Bit Of Sand (Or Dust From Previous Grinding Work) Onto The Slab:
– This is where the matrix away which will increase the chance of opening up the diamonds again.
Add A Misting Of water To The Concrete:
– This will make a slight paste between the diamonds and the concrete which will increase the chance of opening up the diamonds again.
Grind Or Cut On A Soft Concrete Slab To Open Up Fresh Diamonds:
– Using a known soft slab or even a paver can open the diamonds up again to they have a fresh edge.
Reverse The rotation If That Function Is Available On Your Machine:
– Reversing the rotation of the machine can change the dynamics of the way the diamonds are being worn out and give a fresh edge to the diamonds.
Concrete Grinding Shoes?
Different companies may have different attachments for their Concrete Grinders. So if your Concrete Grinder doesn’t fit a “Concrete Grinding Disc” or a “Concrete Grinding Plug” than it will most likely fit a “Concrete Grinding Shoe”.
Why Is There Weights On My Concrete Grinder?
– What are the weights on my concrete grinder used for?
– When should I change the weights on my concrete grinder?
– What does changing the position of the weights on my concrete grinder do?
POSITION 1 – Normally the weights will be at the back of the machine located at the bottom (position 1) this is to keep power consumption down on the machine and to avoid the machine running at over 100% which would cause an overload or cut out. Although if the machine is not running at the full performance that it can you can move the weights to the front of the machine instead of the back (position 2)
POSITION 2 – By moving the weights to the front (into position 2) it will increase the performance of the concrete grinder and the diamonds by giving it more weight and pressure. ALTHOUGH this can only be done if the power source and the concrete grinder can handle it!
You have to keep an eye on the gauge. Which is located on the “HVA Meter” this meter will show you the performance of the machine while it’s running. If it says its running at 100% that’s fine. If you put the weights on the front of the machine (position 2) and it says it’s running at 110% you know you’re overloading the machine so you need to put the weights on the back (position 1) instead of the front (position 2).
Do not push the machine over 100%. If it’s running at 70% you can increase its performance by moving the weights to the front of the head (position 2). But if the machine is running at over 100% you need to move the weights to the back of the head (position 1) to reduce the performance to stop an overload occurring.
POSITION 3 – If the machine is overloading (Running at over 100% and cutting out/switching off/blowing your power) non stop even with the weights in (position 1). You have a third option (position 3) move the weights to the far back to reduce the weight even more on the head of the concrete grinder. You can place the weights on the far back of the machine to help it lift the head off the concrete slightly to reduce how much pressure the machine is putting on the concrete and diamonds.
This will reduce power consumption & power of the diamonds by placing the weights into (position 3) on your concrete grinder which will reduce the weight on the head of the concrete grinder. This is used for softer concrete or for when the machine is still running at over 100% and keeps switching off.
– How do I change the weights on my concrete grinder?
Simply lift up the weight and slot it into one of the other positions, depending on the model of the concrete grinder. some may screw in, bolt in, or simply just sit there. For the satellite models, they simply pull up and slot back down.
Understand What The Power Requirements Are For Your Concrete Grinder
The stronger the Concrete Grinder, the more power is required to operate it. So always make sure you have the correct cable as well as cable length: When using a 10 AMP Power Cable to power a walk-behind concrete grinder, its important to remember that your cable should be 15 metres long MAX. otherwise it will trip out your power constantly and won’t power the concrete grinder correctly. In this situation, it’s best to hire a 16 KVA generator as well as a heavy-duty 10 AMP – 15 Metre power cables to ensure the machine is getting enough power.
– 10 AMP Power Cable (Your standard Australian power cable used for most household appliances, they are also used to power handheld and low power 240v walk behind Concrete Grinders)
– 15 AMP Power Cable (This cable looks like a 10 AMP power cable but the bottom pin is larger. 15 AMP power cables are used to power mid-range Concrete Grinders that require power sources over 240v)
– Three-Phase Power Cables (This is a heavy-duty large 4 spike cable used to power heavy-duty commercial Concrete Grinders)
Plan What Dust Control Method You Are Going To Use With Your Concrete Grinder
Its always recommended to use sufficient dust control methods while using a Concrete Grinder this usually involves attaching a high powered commercial vacuum or commercial dust collector directly into the Concrete Grinder (which is located at the back of a walk-behind Concrete Grinder or normally an attachment is purchased for a handheld Concrete Grinder to allow you to plug a vacuum or dust collector directly into the Concrete Grinder).
Another option is wet Concrete Grinding the wet process is the oldest way of Concrete Grinding and polishing concrete. Many people prefer it for the simple reason that it has been around the longest, and they learned to grind or polish concrete using this method. It’s also a simple way to control dust if a dust extraction machine or commercial vacuum isn’t able to be used or isn’t available.
The Advantages Of Wet Concrete Grinding Are:
– Almost no dust goes airborne thus reducing the need for respirators or dust collectors and vacuums.
– The diamond discs/plugs run cooler.
– You can use the amount of water to govern the rate of wear on the diamonds.
The Disadvantages Of Wet Concrete Grinding Are:
– Makes a horrible mess often having to have another machine sucking up the slurry or additional labourers sweeping it out of the way.
– The floor must be dried for a long period of time after wetting to ensure a moisture-free substrate is achieved before any recoating or reinstallation of flooring systems.
– The concrete dust slurry will often stick into the pores of the concrete and when dried and then coating applied it cant stick to this dried slurry causing debonding issue with your new coating or flooring system.
– Disposal of concrete dust slurry water is often restricted more than dust and can be annoying to handle and dispose of.
– The Concrete Grinder becomes very dirty and has to be cleaned after use to maintain it and often needs to be cleaned on the job if its a large area.
The Advantages of Dry Concrete Grinding Are:
– The job is much easier to clean as well as keep clean if you need to do a second pass with the grinders.
– No slurry issues and the frustration of dealing with it.
– The surface is dry and ready to vacuum and coat or install a new flooring system immediately.
– You can see the results immediately while your Concrete Grinding.
– The Concrete Grinder is a lot easier to maintain and components generally last a lot longer.
The Disadvantages Of Dry Concrete Grinding Dry Are:
– Dust is a health hazard as well as whatever else goes into the air, depending what you’re removing from the concrete such as magnesite residue, or asbestos vinyl residue which means the dust in the air could contain asbestos.
– The dust must be controlled with sufficient equipment and PPE to prevent inhalation and respiratory health risks.
– Dust can be hard to collect using cheap vacuums and require special purpose-built dust collectors to maintain airflow without the filter constantly getting blocked from the concrete dust.
– Usually, high powered commercial vacuums or dust collectors are needed.
– If the incorrect tooling is used Concrete Grinders can overheat easily and cause glazing.
Why Do I Need A Concrete Grinder?
Concrete Grinders have various applications and uses. They can be used to remove stubborn tile glue, vinyl glue, carpet glue, cement residue, waterproofing membranes, epoxy coatings, etc. They can also be used to smooth out uneven surfaces in a concrete slab to prepare for the reinstallation of a new flooring system or to simply have a clean and smooth concrete slab.
How Does A Concrete Grinder Work?
Concrete Grinding involves using rotating diamond teeth discs or plugs on specialized machinery to level, smooth or cleans the surface of a concrete slab to allow re-installation of a new flooring system. Or simply have a clean, level and smooth concrete floor.
Concrete Grinding is usually carried out by large floor grinding machines that have diamond-encrusted cup wheels installed on a spinning disc. These diamonds make contact with the concrete at high speeds and gradually grind down the concrete or glue residue, etc.
It doesn’t matter if you’re using a small handheld Concrete Grinder or a bigger walk behind Concrete Grinder – they work the same way. The head rotates, grinding the surface of the concrete beneath, and different attachments must be used to get you the results that you want.

WHY CHOOSE
CARPET REMOVAL SYDNEY?
Dustmaster® series dust extractors have been specially designed to handle demands of the concrete grinding industry which has high loading fine silica dust.

TESTIMONIALS

“Excellent service from the team at Carpet Removal Sydney. Will definitely use their services again, was absolutely amazed at how much money I saved going through Carpet Removal Sydney instead of going through Carpet Court.”

“The boys at Carpet Removal Sydney went out of their way to help me so much as I wasn’t able to move a lot of the furniture myself as my back isn’t great. I also saved over $400 getting the carpet removed by these guys! Would recommend, thanks again!”

“The boys at Carpet Removal Sydney also did an absolutely amazing job with the removal as well as the installation of my carpet as well after it was flooded by my dishwasher overnight. Called them up at 6 pm, they were also there the next day and completed the take up the same day! Really happy with the result.”

“I always recommend Carpet Removal Sydney when a tenant moves out of one of our properties if the carpet needs to be replaced. They always do an amazing job, leave the property clean and save our clients hundreds and sometimes even thousands.”

“Was completely gobsmacked at the quotes that I got from 3 other company’s on the northern beaches and how outrageously high they were just to remove the carpet in a shop I had recently purchased. So it was such a relief when my friend recommended I try out Carpet Removal Sydney and I ended up saving over $3,000, Thanks again!”

“I had absolutely no idea what to do when we had a pipe burst in our property, but thankfully Carpet Removal Sydney had a 24-hour emergency assistance team that did an absolutely amazing job with the removal of the carpet that had been completely soaked, called them up at 2 am on a Tuesday and they were here within 30minutes. Couldn’t be happier with their services!”

“You were very professional, well dressed, well mannered and quick. I will recommend your services to our friends. Thanks again!”

“Thanks again for your help guys, I really appreciate you coming so far to do such a small job”

“Can’t argue with cheapest prices, best customer services, and same day service! very impressed!”

“I was shocked when I had realised that my daughter had spilled my paint set all over my new carpet in my rental property, had no idea what to do, everything I tried failed, gave Carpet Removal Sydney a quick call and they gave me free advice over the phone, with no charge that actually worked! Thank you so much!”

“Very impressed with your team members high quality work. You all arrived on time, you did an amazing job finish the removal process and installation process without damaging anything. (My last two experiences with carpet layers from carpet court they both damaged the skirting boards and a piece of furniture) So thanks for giving me faith again that a job can be completed without my property being damaged. And thanks to your team for helping me in such short notice due to my unit having flood damage! Really appreciate everything that you did for me!”

“He has great product knowledge and took the time to thoroughly explain the differences of each carpet in a simple way. He has a very personable manner and is very friendly and polite. He explained the process well provided a competitive quote. He was flexible with the install date (as I had some other trades finishing off work before the carpet could be installed) and worked with me to secure a date that suited both parties. I had an issue with the underlay requirements due to strata laws and Declan was very helpful in helping me source the correct underlay to meet strata requirements. I believe he went over and above his role to assist me. The floors are amazing! I’m extremely happy with the choice and the whole process. Thank you Declan. I hope Carpet Removal Sydney realise what an asset you are to their team. ”

“I attempted a carpet removal job my self in my new office only to realise the job was commercially glued down, needless to say as a I.T nerd i had absolutely no chance of removing it haha. I thought i would give a few companys a call to request a quote on how much the removal process would cost… and my god i was shocked at the overwhelming expense of how much commercial carpet removal costs… I was so relieved though when i stumbled across Carpet Removal Sydney (One of my co-workers recently had their team out to remove carpet in a new house they purchased) and was relieved when i finally found a company that was willing to do it for a fair price. I was a little concerned at the start due to their price being so much lower than all of their competitors, but my co-worker re assured me that they had an amazing team. I was quite relieved when the whole process was over and they had done such an amazing job for almost a third of their competitors prices. Thanks again lads! If you ever need a computer fixed hit me up! ”

“Thanks again boys! really happy with how my shop looks now! i knew ripping out the carpet was the best option, definitely looks a lot better with a clean smooth slab so that i could install a nice hardwood floor”
