So Are Polished Concrete Floors able to be installed over timber? Yes, generally speaking, If your floorboards are extremely well bonded to the underlying surface, it is sometimes possible to have a 3mm micro-topping hand trowelled over the floorboards. However, we always recommend removing the current flooring to expose solid concrete that we can polish.

Polishing the solid concrete underneath is actually longer-lasting and a lot more durable. We are also sometimes asked if we can put Polished Concrete over tiles. Because we don’t actually lay concrete ourselves, we can’t really advise on having a topping slab poured over floorboards, so that’s definitely a question for your concreter or builder instead.

Almost any structurally sound concrete floor, whether new or old, can be Polished. However, there are some exceptions, for example with new floors no special mix design is required to achieve good results, although the floor should be in place at least 28 days before Polishing begins to ensure adequate curing
